This weeks 'Ring of the Week' project came to fruition after the client saw an antique Edwardian style engagement ring that featured a large diamond centre stone. Our client wanted to alter the centre stone to have a cushion cut diamond and to add further millgrain detail in addition to a contemporary split opening on the underside of the ring. The challenge we faced with this design was capturing the side stone settings for a different shaped centre diamond and still retaining the feel of a vintage ring with specific detail requests. The end result was a beautiful Edwardian inspired engagement ring with contemporary twists. We had to consider the setting at the 12 and 6 o clock points, since these were to be stone set. We also had to allow enough metal to show without compromising the focus from the centre stone. The tapered melee diamonds were blended upward into the centre setting with the millgrain detailing. The whole ring came together seamlessly, with the contemporary under gallery details and the complex centre setting elements exceeding the clients expectations.
